Yes, Henri,

Create a text file in your user home directory called  
"vZome.preferences".  In that file, put the single line:

    color.background = 255,255,255

That will give you a white background.  Of course, you can set the  
RGB values to whatever you like, between 0 and 255 inclusive.

Curious that you have a black background... the default should be a  
dark slaty blue.
